Note on maximum number of out-of-load courses per semester:
Departmental faculty who have a full load with their academic department or school may normally teach a maximum of two additional courses out-of-load, unless courses are stacked, which means two or more courses or class sections are scheduled at the same time and location, and which count as one workload credit.
Faculty Member requests to teach the following course(s):
Note on Stacked Courses: Per per PPS 04.01.40, stacked courses, which are two or more courses or class sections scheduled at the same time and location, count as one workload credit. Faculty are therefore compensated for teaching a single course per stack of courses.
Note on Granting Students Closed Course Overrides, for Full Course Sections:
Once an extension course is approved and listed in the Schedule of Classes with a maximum enrollment, the Office of Distance and Extended Learning will add up to two additional seats to a full class (issue individual students Closed Course Overrides), at the instructor's directive. To increase enrollment beyond two seats, ODEL will also seek the Chair's approval.
Once a course opens, an extension course instructor may request Closed Course Overrides for individual students by sending the request, including the student's ID number and the course prefix, number, and CRN to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note on Special Approval:
For instructor-level approval, the Office of Distance and Extended Learning recommends using the "EXTE" restriction instead of designating "IN": Instructor approval, since ODEL staff can clear students of this restriction at the instructor's direction.
