Outdoor Recreation Programming

This program has been cancelled for summer 2020.

This class will meet on the Texas State University campus and online during the 2020 semester and will include a required seven-day field trip to study outdoor recreation while backpacking in New Mexico.

Summer 2020 Term: June 1, 2020 - July 24, 2020

Program Travel: July 11, 2020 - July 18, 2020

Course will meet on the Texas State University campus in San Marcos several times before and after field trip.

Orientation Meetings: June 1, 2020 - 2 hours, July 6, 2020, 2 hours

Course Meetings: Meets regularly online. In-person meeting dates: June 1, 2020, July 6, 2020 and travel dates of July 11-18 2020.

Materials:   Class material is delivered both online and in person.  

Required:   Eight-day field trip to New Mexico

What You Will Learn

Students backpack in New Mexico on a snow covered ridgeStudents will learn and apply principles and procedures for developing and leading recreation programs in a variety of specialized outdoor environments. You will learn and practice "Leave No Trace" principles and manage risk and emergencies in an outdoor environment during a backpacking trip through New Mexico. This course is taught in cooperation with the Texas State University - Outdoor Center.  Prerequisites: REC1330 Leisure and Outdoor Recreation.

Tuition and Program Fee

Tuition for three hours of undergraduate university credit (one course):  $862.71

Program fee, which includes lodging, campsite fees, entrance fees, and on-site transportation:  $1,015

Course tuition and program fee will be billed and paid through SBS Billing and Payment.
