Fashion Merchandising in New York

This program has been cancelled for summer 2020.

This class will meet on the Texas State University campus during the 2020 Summer I semester and includes a field trip to New York City to study fashion merchandising.

Program Travel: July 5, 2020 - July 10, 2020

Course will meet on the Texas State University campus in San Marcos three times during the spring and several times during the summer semester.

Orientation Meetings: February 20, 2020, March 26, 2020, and April 23, 2020

Course Meetings: Meets regularly, July 6, 2020 - August 6, 2020

Required:   Six-day field trip to New York City


Program Objectives and Details

2017 program students on a site visit As part of the program experience, students get an in-depth look at the fashion industry, learn from industry professionals, and witnessed how this multifaceted industry offers exciting careers within merchandising, wholesale, styling, trend, and retail analytics. Students have the opportunity to incorporate real-world situations into experience and witness and practice key concepts that are relevant to their Fashion Merchandising degree.

Assignments and seminars focus on the key forces driving change in the retail industry with a focus on trends that will matter most. Students also have the opportunity to build upon future partnerships and mentoring relationships, as well as explore internship opportunities for the future.

Program includes:

  • 6 day/5 night visit in a Deluxe Hotel with shuttle service to/from airport
  • 6 days of visits with Key Industry Leaders in the Fashion Industry
  • Internship Seminar
  • NYC Educational Shopping Tour
  • Assortment Planning Seminar
  • Lunch at Fashion Industry Corporate Office
  • 1 Group Dinner
  • Ticket to Popular Show
  • Ticket to Current Fashion Exhibit at NYC Museum

Admission is selective, and space is limited.


Course Options

FM 4320 Fashion Merchandising in Domestic Markets CRN 52916

Students register for three (3) credit hours during this program.

Pre-trip orientation meetings will take place on the Texas State campus in San Marcos.

Online coursework will also be required.


Tuition and Program Fee

Tuition for three hours of undergraduate university credit (one course): $862.71

Additional Program Fee, which covers housing, travel in New York City, one group dinner, theatre ticket, fashion exhibit ticket, fashion industry site visits, educational shopping trip, and additional on-site programming: $2,410

Important Note: Airfare to/from NYC and personal expenses, including most meals, are not included in the Program Fee. 

The course tuition and program fee is billed and paid through SBS Billing and Payment.

All university policies regarding installments, course drops, and refunds apply to all billed and paid tuition and program fees.


Applying to the Program

Texas State University requires completion of the Texas State University Study in America Program Application, as well as approval of the Program Director, Ms. Kasia Romo, prior to registering for courses.

Registering for the Course

Once approved and after submitting the required information, register for your course through the Student Information System/Catsweb during the regular university registration period.
