Study in America COVID-19 Response Information

Study in America Summer 2022 Programs - February 21, 2022

  •  The field/travel portion of the program is subject to change and/or cancellation. If the field portion of the program is canceled, Study in America, in collaboration with the academic departments and program providers, will make every effort to develop online, virtual field experiences as alternatives to the field/travel experiences. If instruction continues with virtual field experiences, Texas State Study in America will refund or discount the additional program fee (not course tuition). If you have any questions, please contact Study in America at 512-245-2322 or email

Texas State Study in America has been diligently working together with our collaborators at the university, as well as with our network of colleagues in the field of domestic education and risk management resources to plan for the semesters ahead.

As we continue developing new programs and prepare for the next academic year, it is important to Texas State to offer a plan which makes our students and their loved ones feel as comfortable as possible as they prepare for their academic experiences abroad. The health and safety of our participants is the top priority for Texas State Study in America. Our programing plan for 2021-2022 was developed taking into consideration the students’ financial decisions that are involved when studying  in the United States.

There are multiple factors that will determine how to proceed with our plans for 2021-2022.

  • Travel restrictions imposed by our government officials
  • Policies and procedures established by our System Office and University
  • Local authority’s evaluation of the situation on location and each state or destination’s requirements related to COVID-19
  • Vaccination requirements established by each state of destination (if applicable)
  • Recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
  • Payment and cancellation policies related to each individual program
  • Viability to deliver rich and meaningful educational experiences based on the local conditions for each individual program

As uncertainty prevails in the months ahead, Study in America will provide timely and transparent communication to the Texas State community and will remain available for any questions or concerns from our students and their loved ones as we plan and prepare for our future programs.

In the same manner, it is important to acknowledge that the success of our programs will also depend on the active responsible role of all our participants. The circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic have urged us to modify our participation regulations and protocols requiring a higher level of responsibility from our faculty, students, and partners throughout the United States. Students will have the opportunity to review the participation policies that will apply to their programs and decide if they are comfortable with adhering to them prior to enrolling.

Due to the rapidly changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, we recommend that faculty and students refrain from making financial commitments until programs are confirmed.

Preparing for 2022

We have many opportunities planned for this year. Let us reassure you that these programs are continuously assessed taking into consideration health and safety factors. Please visit our website for details about each program and do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns, all of us would be glad to assist as much as we can.

What happens with my classes if my program is canceled? Will I lose my tuition money and not receive any credit for the class?

Study in America, in collaboration with the academic departments and program providers, will make every effort to prevent cancelations and keep students informed of any changes. Students are strongly advised to have a contingency plan such as regular (online or face-to-face) classes at Texas State.

What happens if a student wants to return home once the program has started?

Students may choose to withdraw from their program at any time, however, it is important to understand that students may not be eligible for any refund depending on the time of cancellation. Students are also subject to federal regulations regarding financial aid and may be required to repay all funding received as financial aid and scholarships. Students may also forfeit all academic credits. Texas State will do everything possible to provide alternatives to complete courses but cannot guarantee such options. Completion of academic credit will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Following university policy, they may or may not qualify for a tuition refund and the grade obtained in each course will be determined by the instructor of record or the host institution, and according to Texas State University policy. Students are strongly encouraged to purchase flexible and fully refundable tickets as well as Cancellation For Any Reason (CFAR) travel insurance.
