Latin 1410 will not be offered in the spring 2010 semester.
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the Latin language. The student will learn the fundamentals of classical Latin grammar and, in time, be able to read any Latin author he or she chooses. The student will also marvel at the absurd genius of the ancient Romans, who continue to influence the way we talk, think, and cast spells against the Dark Arts. Anybody curious about the society that spawned Western Civilization, or just looking to fulfill one's language requirement, should consider Latin 1410.
And, as added incentive, you'll be reading Leonidas' famous trash talk to the Persians from the box-office smash 300 in the semi-original Latin (in umbra, igitur, pugnabimus!) by week five, guaranteed!

Latin 2310 will not be offered in the spring 2010 semester.
Latin 2310, third-semester Latin, is a continuation of the first year of Latin studies. As such, we will complete our study of grammar in Wheelock, with a special emphasis on learning all the major uses of the subjunctive. Once finished with Wheelock, we will begin a wide-ranging sample of short readings from Roman authors. We will focus on a selection of writers from Wheelock's Loci Immutati before moving on to the prose and poetry of a couple of major personalities from the first century BC: Cicero and Catullus.
